For a momentum strategy, one typically looks for increasing price and volume over time, demonstrating market support and increasing demand for a stock. We added a market cap greater than $50 million to capture Micro Cap stocks and price greater than $7 to eliminate penny stocks. For our sell rules we sold after a 30% gain to take advantage of existing momentum, and added a trailing stop which sold if a stock dropped more than 9% from its highest price since purchase. Lastly, we purchased the smallest market cap stocks first making this a true Micro Cap strategy.
